Acceptable Use Policy.
The plain rules of the road. This policy is part of the Terms of Service and applies to anyone who uses LawGPT, including every user under a customer account.
1. Scope
This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") forms part of the Terms of Service. The customer is responsible for making sure every user under its account follows it. Violating this AUP may result in suspension or termination of access under section 8 below.
2. Prohibited conduct
You will not use the service to:
- Break the law or any third party's rights
- Upload, store, or transmit content you do not have the right to upload, or content that is unlawful, defamatory, or infringing
- Send malware, viruses, or any code intended to disrupt, damage, or gain unauthorized access to any system
- Probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the service or any network, except under a published security-research program
- Circumvent authentication, rate limits, billing, or any access-control measure
- Reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or attempt to extract the source code, model weights, training data, or algorithms behind the service
- Use the service to build, train, fine-tune, or evaluate a competing AI model or product
- Scrape, harvest, or republish the service or its output for the benefit of any party other than the customer who paid for it
- Resell, sublicense, lease, or otherwise transfer your account
- Use a buying agent or automated agent to purchase the service
- Intercept, alter, or destroy data belonging to another user or customer
- Interfere with another customer's use of the service, including by excessive automated traffic
3. AI-specific rules
The service includes AI features that you may not use to:
- Generate content that promotes violence, sexual abuse, the exploitation of minors, terrorism, illegal weapons, or self-harm
- Impersonate another person without lawful authority
- Generate content for the purpose of unlawful discrimination, harassment, or defamation
- Generate, file, or deliver legal work product without independent verification by a qualified attorney
- Represent AI output as a human-authored work product where doing so would mislead a court, regulator, opposing counsel, or client
4. Content moderation
We use Microsoft Azure OpenAI and Azure AI Content Safety to monitor user-submitted prompts and AI-generated content in real time. The system categorizes content by type and severity and is configured to block clear violations automatically, including content depicting violence, hate, self-harm, or sexual content involving minors. We may adjust filter thresholds as needed to meet our safety standards and any contractual or regulatory obligations.
We log moderation decisions for the purpose of operating the service and improving safety, but we do not use customer content to train AI models.
5. Customer responsibilities
- Verify the identity of users you invite, and remove access promptly when a user no longer needs it
- Make sure your users understand and follow this AUP, including the AI-specific rules in section 3
- Make sure the content you upload is one you have the right to process under your obligations to clients, employees, opposing parties, and any regulator
6. Reporting abuse
If you become aware of a violation of this AUP, including an AI-generated output that you believe should have been blocked, email abuse@lawgpt.com. For copyright complaints, email legal@lawgpt.com with enough detail to identify the work and the allegedly infringing material.
7. Investigations
We may investigate suspected violations of this AUP. We may preserve relevant content and access logs, contact the customer to ask for additional information, and cooperate with lawful requests from law enforcement. We will, where reasonable and legally permitted, give the affected customer notice and a chance to respond before taking action.
8. Consequences
Depending on the seriousness and pattern of conduct, we may: warn the customer, throttle or block specific features, suspend the offending user, suspend the customer account, or terminate the subscription for material breach under the Terms. For severe violations — including child sexual abuse material, credible threats of imminent violence, or use of the service to commit fraud — we may suspend without prior notice and report to law enforcement.
9. Changes
We may update this AUP as the service and its risks evolve. The effective date at the top of the page is the date of the most recent revision.
